Every Bangladeshi citizen going abroad for work must register with the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET). This is not optional — without BMET registration and emigration clearance, you cannot legally leave Bangladesh for employment. Here is the complete process.
What is BMET?
BMET is a government body under the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment. It regulates and facilitates the overseas employment of Bangladeshi workers, protects their rights, and maintains a database of migrant workers.
Step 1: Online Registration at probashi.gov.bd
- Go to probashi.gov.bd
- Click "Registration" and create an account
- Fill in personal details: name (as per passport), date of birth, father's name, mother's name, NID number, passport number
- Upload passport-size photo and NID scan
- Select your desired destination country and job category
- Pay the registration fee: 7,500 BDT (as of 2026)
Step 2: Biometric Enrollment
- After online registration, visit a BMET district office or the main office in Dhaka (89/2 Kakrail, Dhaka-1000)
- Bring your original passport, NID, and registration confirmation
- Fingerprint and photo will be captured
- You will receive a registration slip
Step 3: Smart Card Collection
- Smart Card is ready within 7-14 working days
- Collect from the same office where biometric was done
- Smart Card is valid for 5 years
- It contains your photo, biometric data, and registration details
Step 4: Pre-Departure Briefing
- Mandatory briefing session conducted by BMET
- Covers: your rights as a worker, labor laws of destination country, emergency contacts, dos and don'ts
- Duration: half day
- Certificate of attendance is required for emigration clearance
Step 5: Emigration Clearance
- Apply through probashi.gov.bd after receiving your work visa
- Required documents: Smart Card, valid visa, employment contract, medical fitness certificate, pre-departure briefing certificate
- Clearance is issued within 2-3 working days
- Without this clearance, immigration at the airport will not allow you to board
Important Tips:
- Start BMET registration as soon as you get a job offer — do not wait for the visa
- Keep your Smart Card safe — you will need it when returning to Bangladesh
- If an agency tells you BMET registration is not needed, they are lying — report them
- Government-approved cost for migration should not exceed 84,000 BDT for most countries
Common Problems and Solutions:
- Photo rejected: Use a white background, no glasses, recent photo
- NID mismatch: Ensure your name spelling matches exactly between passport and NID
- Payment failed: Use bKash, Nagad, or bank transfer — receipts are valid for 30 days
